It has been a busy few weeks. The school year has ended and some of our players have now graduated from grade 8. Congratulations graduates! Since the last blog, we have played in the Whitby tournament and have practised. Soccer is about to get busy: we have a game on Wednesday, the Kingston tournament on July 6 and 7 and our Cup game on the 10th. For those new to REP soccer, Cup games are a competition within the season. A win means you advance to the next Cup round while a loss means you are eliminated. A team can win the Cup without winning the season and visa versa.
A few suggestions about soccer and the summer break. 1, Make sure you have energy when it is time to play or practice. A full day swimming, hiking or biking is what makes summer great but you need to ensure you can recover your energy when it comes time for soccer. Why not take a break and stretch out on the hammock for a few hours on game days. 2. Eating the right things will energize you for all your summer activities. Eating the wrong things will zap you of energy and interfere with your performance. Remember to review the nutrition information posted on this website. 3. Hydrate. Taking in enough fluid is very important in summer-- without it, you will not have energy and you could suffer injury or illness including dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Water, yes H2O, is still the best fluid for our bodies before, during and after sports and activities. [see Soccer Hydration Guide on the Info tab]
Being on a REP soccer team is a commitment! It requires that you take care of yourself -- for your sake and for the team.
Missing your math homework? Why not grab your soccer ball, go outside, and count how many juggles you can get.
