We are about half way through our season already but there is a lot of soccer in front of us. Time now to think of what we have accomplished and what our goals are to end of the season. So, take some time to think about our games and our training. Remind yourself of the goals you set for yourself: are you making progress? Your coaches recognize that soccer is not all there is to do in a day. Can you commit 1/2 hour or so each day to go outside and juggle, practice dribbling and footwork or run. I know some of you have made this commitment because we can see it. For others, what is stopping you? Remember, don't prove yourself, improve yourself!
This week we showed you a method to learn how to shoot in stride, a very difficult skill but much easier if you commit to practising on your own. With this skill you can drive the ball into the net from the 18 yard box and beyond. Remember: walk slowly and kick the ball in front of you with your kicking foot using proper technique (your kicking leg should look like a V with toes pointing down) and when you are ready to kick take a normal step and drive through the ball striking the ball with the sweet spot of your foot. If you need to take stutter steps, you are not doing this right. When you are comfortable with this technique at a slow pace, speed up to a jog and then a full run. When you can kick the ball in stride during a game, you and our team will be rewarded.
One more thing: If you have set goals for our team but don't know if others share these goals, perhaps it is time for you to step up and speak up. If you do this in a positive way, maybe you will motivate and encourage everyone on the team to do their very best. Everyone on the team can be a leader!
